Don’t speculate on potential BN candidates for GE14 — Khairy

YAN: All parties are urged not to raise speculation on the Barisan Nasional (BN) candidate contesting in the 14th General Election (GE14) as this could lead to unhealthy situations.

Umno Youth chief Khairy Jamaluddin said all the candidates eligible to contest in the coming general election would only be decided by the top party leadership.

“I have identified (the candidates) just like all the (state) liaison heads have already identified at the liaison (body) level. We have all sent (the list of candidates) to the Barisan Nasional Chairman and the decision will eventually be made at the top leadership level.

“We have all prepared the list just like all the other wings, just like the liaison bodies but the decision will eventually be made by the top party leadership after listening to the views of all parties. Datuk Seri Najib (Tun Razak) will make the decision who is the best candidate to win the seats contested by the BN,” he said.

He said this to reporters after launching the ‘Briged Gempur 2314 Belia BN Negeri – Himpunan Kekal Biru Parlimen Jerai’ at Kampung Keda, Sungai Udang near here yesterday.

The launching ceremony was officiated by State BN chairman and Kedah Menteri Besar Datuk Seri Ahmad Bashah Md Hanipah.

Also present was Minister in the Prime Minister’s Department cum Jerai MP Datuk Seri Jamil Khir Baharom.

Khairy Jamaluddin was commenting on whether the list of Youth exco candidates had been identified to contest in GE14.

Asked on the percentage of new faces, he said: Yes, Youth candidates are mostly new faces.

In this regard, Khairy Jamaluddin who is also Youth and Sports Minister also announced an allocation of RM8 million and a sports complex to be built at a site in Kampung Keda, Sungai Udang.

He said construction of the sports complex would commence as soon as possible.
