-

SANDAKAN: The marine police caught two illegal immigrants for trying to smuggle out six barrels of RON 95 petrol worth about RM462 to the Philippines around 5.30am yesterday.

The suspects, aged 24 and 33, were also syabu addicts after 4.1 grams of syabu and aluminium foils were found in the boat.

Marine Police District 4 commander ACP Mohd Yazib Abd Aziz said five marine police officers were patrolling around Kuala Sungai Mile 3 here when they spotted a speedboat with no registration number and gave chase.

After it was stopped, they found two men onboard without valid identification documents and six barrels of RON 95 petrol.

The suspects were taken to the Sandakan Criminal Investigation Department for urine tests, and both were tested positive for Methamphetamine.

Investigation revealed that one of the suspects admitted that he had attempted to deliver the RON 95 petrol to Bankungan Besar Island of the Philippines.

Both suspects also admitted to have consumed syabu and the drugs seized belonged to them.

“The suspects were taken to the Sandakan police station for further action under the Dangerous Drugs Act 1952 and Control of Supplies Act 1961,” Yazib said.

Also seized were a wooden speedboat and a Yamaha engine worth about RM25,862.
