Car wash not hampered by drizzle

MIRI: The drizzle failed to stop the charity car wash at Coco Cabana, Marina Park here yesterday. It was jointly organised by KTS Group of Companies and STIHL.

As early as 7am, dozens of cars gathered at the venue to kick off the fourth leg of the month-long programme.

“Since the event kicked off in Kuching on Jan 13 then extended to Sibu and Bintulu, a total of 2,430 vehicles have been washed.

“We hope to see as many vehicles washed as possible over the two days (Feb 3 and 4) in Miri,” said Kelvin Lau Kor Jie, senior executive of KTS Trading Sdn Bhd yesterday.

Lau revealed that after Miri, the programme will be extended to Sabah where Kota Kinabalu will be the next stop on March 3, followed by Sandakan, Tawau and Lahad Datu.

“We welcome all Mirians and Bruneians to bring their vehicles to wash to support to those in need,” he said.

The event officiated by Mayor Adam Yii saw the participat­ion of 30 students from Riam Road Secondary School and 24 students from SM Pei Min who lent a helping hand.

Customers are charged RM30 per car washed, the vehicle's owner given a coupon with his full name and identifica­tion number for a lucky draw - prizes sponsored by Stihl.

The funds raised are to benefit 23 Chinese Independen­t Schools in Sarawak and Sabah.

The first prize is a high pressure cleaner, second a vacuum cleaner, third cordless brush cutter FSA 56, fourth cordless brush cutter FSA 45, fifth cordless shrub shears HAS 25 (five unit), and 10 consolatio­n prizes of Stihl watches.

The list of lucky draw winners will be announced at 4pm today (Feb 4).

The event was held in conjunctio­n with the 50th anniversar­y of KTS and STIHL.

Among those present at the event was KTS Miri branch manager Stephen Chiew.
