Semporna hosts Sabah Tennis Association first 2018 Exco meeting
KOTA KINABALU: Sabah Tennis Association (STA) conducted its first Exco meeting of the year in Semporna recently.
Semporna District Tennis Association (Semporna DTA) is STA’s newest affiliate.
Among the highlights at the meeting were the approval of the RM190,000 budget by the Exco and Johnson Koh, the STA president, and the association’s accounts for 2017, after close scrutiny and explanation, were declared very healthy without any doubts cast.
“The (activities) calendar and the special creation of a new Junior Inter-Affiliate Tournament were also approved.
“The junior special tournament by itself will see the inclusion of the girls’ event. The new format will be two singles and one doubles match for both the boys’ and girls’ team events,” Koh said in a statement yesterday.
“All major tournaments planned were also approved but STA is very worried about the condition of the tennis courts at the Kota Kinabalu Sports Complex in Likas which need very urgent resurfacing.
“Luyang YB Datuk Hiew has been approached again to help. International events may be cancelled if the courts are not resurfaced,” he added.
Meanwhile, the STA committee and KK Buggzss played friendly doubles matches against Semporna, Tawau and Segaria Estate players combined prior to the meeting.
Koh said the matches were played at the newly built international-compliance tennis court located inside the Segaria Estate, whose senior manager is STA vice president Christopher Lim.
After the Exco meeting, the STA entourage were given an island hopping tour as well as a dinner hosted by Semporna DTA.
Semporna district officer Dr. Chacho Hj Bullah was the guest of honour at the dinner. Also present were Marasun Hasim, the Semporna Youth and Sports officer.
Semporna DTA president Janad Amat expressed his aspirations for the district to progress further in tennis with the help from the DO, STA and the Segaria senior manager.
