Woman killed after rejecting marriage proposal – police

-

PETALING JAYA: Police believe a man had allegedly murdered his colleague and brought her body to a police station here after she turned down his marriage proposal.

Petaling Jaya police chief Assistant Commissioner Mohd Zani Che Din said the 37-year-old suspect had initially asked the 35year-old victim, D. Tharani, out for lunch at a mall before making his proposal around 1.30pm.

“The suspect killed her in the vehicle after she turned down his intention and wanted to marry someone else. Both had only been acquainted for a short period,” he said.

Police identified the car park of the Giant Hypermarket in Kota Damansara as the site where the victim was attacked.

Investigators believe the attack was premeditated, as the suspect had proposed to Tharani several times before.

They also recovered text messages between the suspect and Tharani that indicated the two had argued over the topic previously.

Mohd Zani then clarified that the suspect and his victim had only known each other since November, and not two years as previously reported.

He said police were obtaining closed-circuit television footage from the mall’s parking lot and the restaurant the two had visited.

Initial investigations showed the victim had worked in a telecommunications company before joining a condominium management office where she met the suspect, who worked in security at the same place.

On Tuesday, the suspect allegedly killed his 37-year-old lover in her car and then drove to the Damansara police station to surrender, with the body still in the front seat.

The man confessed his crime to the stunned policemen.

Police went out to check the car, which was parked at the main entrance, and found the bloodied body in the front passenger seat.

They also found a sharp object in the car, which was believed to be the murder weapon.

Relatives who turned up at the Universiti Malaya Medical Centre’s Pathology Department claimed Tharani had no boyfriend and that they had not heard of the man.

Mohd Zani said the suspect was brought to the Petaling Jaya magistrate’s court on Tuesday morning and remanded for seven days to facilitate investigations.

“We managed to obtain a remand for seven days. We will investigate the case thoroughly,” he said.
