New Ryan Murphy-helmed series ‘The Politician’ green-lit for Netflix
FREQUENT collaborators Ryan Murphy and Brad Falchuk had been working on the script, about a wealthy Santa Barbara resident getting into the political landscape, over the last year.
The Politician--a new hour-long comedy series from Murphy, Falchuk, and Ian Brennan--has received a two-season straight-toseries order. Each season of the forthcoming show will revolve around a different political race.
The deal came after a weeklong bidding war among top streaming players, including Amazon and Hulu, Deadline reported.
This will be Murphy’s second Netflix series, along with the upcoming Ratched, which stars Emmy-winning actress Sarah Paulson as a younger version of the diabolical Nurse Ratched character from the Ken Kesey book, “One Flew Over the Cuckoo’s Nest”.
The Politician joins Murphy’s growing list of scripted originals: Fox’s recently-renewed drama 911, plus the FX series American Horror Story, American Crime Story, and Feud.
The project will star Ben Platt (known for the titular role in the Broadway musical “Dear Evan Hansen”, which earned him the 2017 Tony Award for Best Actor in a Musical).
Oscar winners Barbra Streisand and Gwyneth Paltrow are in negotiations to co-star.
Production is expected to start in the late summer. — Relaxnews
