Lawyer says alleged sexual harassment victim’s ‘U-turn’ shocks his client

KOTA KINABALU: The second defendant in a civil suit filed by a medical centre over a viral sexual harassment voice message via WhatsApp application has been put in a bad light publicly by the “U-turn” of the alleged victim.

His lawyer Datuk VK Liew said this in a press statement yesterday after reading the report from local newspapers that the woman (alleged victim) had denied the sexual harassment claim.

“Our client has been put in a bad light publicly by the U-turn of the woman, who was the first defendant in the same suit.

“He says with the retraction, it has caused prejudicial effect on his defence and irreparable damage to his reputation.

“He believes that the medical centre has played a big part in getting her to retract her (first defendant) statement and in doing so, he believes that he has become a victim of circumstances and conspiracy,” Liew said.

Liew said his client believed he deserves a space in the newspapers to clarify certain issues strictly on a without prejudice basis.

He said his client stated that the alleged voice messages that had gone viral last July accusing a resident doctor in the medical centre of sexual harassment was made in consequence of what had happened to the woman when she was being examined by the doctor in a medical room.

He said his client, who was the woman’s down-line in a multilevel marketing business, was now absolutely shocked to discover that she had made a Uturn, and went on to hold a press conference at the premises of the medical centre on Wednesday to issue the denial.

“Our client thereby reserves his legal rights in the matter against the woman and the medical centre,” Liew concluded.
