TEMERLOH: A part-time worker at an ecotourism centre was sentenced to 28 years in jail and 18 strokes of the cane after pleading guilty to raping and sodomising a teenager, last December.

Ahmad Faizal Ab Razab, 34, raped the victim twice while she was vacationing with her family at Lata Lembik Eco Park, Raub near here.

He committed the first offence between 12.30 am and 1 am on Dec 8, 2017 and the second offence between 11.30 pm on Dec 9 and 8 am on Dec 10, 2017.

He also sodomised the victim, then 14 years and 11 months, at the same location on Dec 9, between 1 am and 8 am.

The victim, from Cyberjaya was on a five-day vacation with family members at the holiday spot when the incident happened. But she only told her parents about it a month later after they noticed and asked her why she seemed different.

Ahmad Faizal was arrested on Jan 27 after the parents lodged a police report.

In mitigation, he said he had a wife and four children to support, besides a younger sister who is studying at a public university.

“I regret my action and promise not to do it again. If ever I am caught again for the same offence, I am prepared to receive the maximum sentence without pleading,” he said.

However, deputy public prosecutor Salwa Asmary Abdul Rahim urged the court to impose an appropriate punishment in view of the trauma suffered by the victim.

Unrelenting, judge Datin M.Kunasundary said the court placed the rights of the victim and interest of the public above the accused’s rights even though he was a first offender.

“If the accused had thought about his wife and children, surely he would have been mindful and not allow his sexual urges to control him,” the judge stressed.
