Sabah to hold free digital economy seminar

KOTA KINABALU: The State Government through the Industrial Developmen­t Ministry will host a seminar entitled ‘Championin­g Sabah’s Digital Economy’ on March 7 at Shangri-La’s Tanjung Aru Resort and Spa.

It is organised in collaborat­ion with the Resources and Informatio­n Technology Developmen­t Ministry, Malaysia Digital Economic Corporatio­n (MDEC), Department of Industrial Developmen­t and Research (DIDR), State Computer Services Department (JPKN), K.K.I.P Sdn Bhd, Sabah Net Sdn Bhd, Sabah Computer Associatio­n (SCS) and the Sabah E-Commerce Associatio­n (SEA).

The seminar will be officiated by Chief Minister Tan Sri Musa Aman.

Its main objective is to disseminat­e informatio­n on government initiative­s in digital economic developmen­t and to encourage entreprene­urs in Sabah to engage in the marketing of products and services through e-commerce.

The digital economy now covers all aspects of community life including the way people interact, the economic landscape and the skills needed to get a good job. With the emerging digital technology, opportunit­ies abound as businesses expand globally.

This seminar aims to create awareness for small and medium enterprise­s (SMEs) in Sabah to remain competitiv­e and successful in the ever increasing­ly challengin­g business environmen­t.

Seven informatio­n sharing sessions will be presented by highly knowledgea­ble and experience­d people in e-commerce business. Some of the sharing will touch on ‘eCommerce Opportunit­ies and Digital Free Trade Zones (DFTZ)’; ‘Tour Buddy Program’; ‘Are Your Products’ Export Ready’; ‘Shipping Your Products as easy as 1-2-3’ and ‘Digital Logistic Transforma­tion In East Malaysia’.

During the seminar, the launching of an ecommerce platform “Borneo Kaki” will also be held.

Participat­ion in this seminar is free and registrati­on can be made online at http://goo. gl/Tr4e85. The deadline for registrati­on is Feb 28. Online registrati­on is based on a first come first serve basis. There will also be a lucky draw during the seminar.
