Two killed as car crashes into disused Batu Tiga toll plaza

SHAH ALAM: Two Federal Highway users were killed when the car they were travelling in hit the pillar of the unused Batu Tiga toll plaza in the 12.55am incident.

The fatal accident yesterday morning involving the toll plaza was the second recorded at the location, following another fatal accident that saw two friends losing their lives and one was injured, on Jan 15.

Shah Alam district police chief ACP Baharudin Mat Taib said the victims were identified as Fathurezza Khoirul Huda Halimsuyto, 31, and Noor Hidayah Mohamed Rezmi, 27.

He said initial investigations revealed that the car was travelling from Kuala Lumpur to Shah Alam and believed to have been speeding before they lost control of the vehicle and rammed into the pillar of the toll plaza.

“Both victims were believed to be on their way home from celebrating Noor Hidayah's birthday which was on February 18, yesterday.

“Fathurezza Khoirul Huda and Noor Hidayah were confirmed dead at the scene due to severe injuries on several parts of the body and the front part of car was wrecked,” he said when contacted here yesterday.

Baharudin said the bodies were sent to the Shah Alam Hospital for a post-mortem and the case was being investigated under Section 41 (1) of the Road Transport Act 1987.

Previously, many users of the highway had voiced their concern over the risk of accidents and urged the authorities to expedite the demolition of the Batu Tiga and Sungai Rasau toll plazas which were no longer operating.

However, PLUS Malaysia Berhad, as the responsible entity for the highway, expects the demolition of the two toll plazas will only be completed in late March. It said that toll equipment, signage and other assets will be taken out first before the demolition of the physical structure begins.

Both toll plazas ceased operations from January 1 following the announcement by Prime Minister Datuk Seri Najib Tun Razak during the 2018 Budget in October 2017.
