Investigat­ion paper on abuse of baby submitted

BUKIT MERTAJAM: Police have completed their investigat­ion paper on the case of a 46-day-old baby girl who died after being allegedly abused by her parents at their home in Kampung Tok Panjang, Bukit Tengah here last Thursday.

Seberang Perai Tengah district police chief ACP Nik Ros Azhan Nik Abdul Hamid said the investigat­ion paper had also been submitted to the state prosecutor for further action.

He said police had recorded statements from 15 witnesses, including the victim’s family members, neighbours and doctors who conducted the post-mortem, in regard to the case.

“The baby’s parents, who are currently remanded, will probably be prosecuted soon,” he said when contacted by Bernama here yesterday.

Nurul Ain Umairah Muhammad Firdaus died about 10.45am Thursday, while being taken to the Seberang Jaya Hospital (HSJ) and the post-mortem report revealed that the infant died due to brain haemorrhag­e, besides having multiple bodily injuries.

Meanwhile, a sombre mood prevailed at the Kampung Tok Panjang Muslim cemetery where the remains of Nurul Ain Umairah were laid to rest after the Asar prayer.

Earlier, the body of Nurul Ain Umairah was claimed by her grandfathe­r and several family members before being taken to her family’s house in Kampung Tok Panjang.

According to the victim’s grandfathe­r, who wanted to be known only as Saidon, 53, he and his family were leaving it to the police to investigat­e the case, adding that the couple’s eldest son who is also Nurul Ain Umairah’s brother was now under his care.
