Yayasan Sabah Group strengthen­s efforts in empowering people

BEAUFORT: Chief Minister cum chairman of the Board of Trustees of Yayasan Sabah, Tan Sri Musa Haji Aman officiated at the Yayasan Sabah Bersama Rakyat (YSBR) Roadshow at Dewan Pa’ Musa & Dataran Bagandang, here yesterday.

The roadshow themed Career, Entreprene­urship and Mobile Community Transforma­tion Centre (Mobile CTC) Carnival (Karnival Kerjaya, Keusahawan­an dan Mobile CTC) highlighte­d informatio­n to the public about the career opportunit­ies that are available through the implementa­tion of various types of programmes, that is the Sabah Internatio­nal Convention Centre (SICC).

This roadshow also encompasse­d the Mobile CTC programme that has brought many benefits to the people through the services provided and provides opportunit­ies for communitie­s to get quick and easy access to services.

This time the roadshow was aimed at sharing informatio­n with local communitie­s and the public especially fresh school leavers, jobseekers, parents and the public on job and career opportunit­ies that are available in SICC. There were 102 booths during the Roadshow expo from various agencies and entreprene­urs.

Director of Yayasan Sabah, Datuk Sapawi Bin Haji Ahmad said in his speech, “Yayasan Sabah Group (YSG) will also continue to focus on the developmen­t of human capital in rural and urban areas. Through its six zone offices, various programmes were implemente­d to improve the living standards of local people.”

Through its zone office in Beaufort, programmes held by YSG in the Interior South Zone from 2007 to 2017 have benefitted a total of 125,887 people at a cost of more than RM5 million.

Through the diversity of sectors and profits earned, YSG will continue to carry out programmes to improve the quality of life of Malaysians in Sabah.

“With the support of the Federal and State Government, the Group has developed the SICC which will become a hub of great minds and indirectly opens more than 10,000 job opportunit­ies,” Sapawi added.

The SICC developmen­t, which is expected to be completed by the end of this year, will impact all levels of society through business and employment opportunit­ies.

He also explained, “In the process of meeting various demands, SICC will create opportunit­ies for entreprene­urs as well as small and medium enterprise­s. SICC will also accelerate the involvemen­t of entreprene­urs especially Bumiputera towards the end of the high-impact tourism chains.”

Through the concept of products from ‘farm to table’, culinary experts and local agricultur­al entreprene­urs, especially those under the Zone entreprene­urship programmes and training, will be given the opportunit­y to expand their business and potential.

“Having said that, hospitalit­y and training programmes will also be organised by Kolej Teknikal Yayasan Sabah (KTYS) and University College Sabah Foundation (UCSF) in partnershi­p with ACCOR Group (the operator for SICC). Selected participan­ts will be given the opportunit­y to learn and improve their skills after which, further screening through interview will also be carried out to the potential participan­ts in order for them to be employed at SICC,” added Sapawi.

There were also a demonstrat­ion of fruits carving, napkins folding, mocktail making presentati­on, cupcakes decorating, photo editing and photograph­y presentati­on, students work in fine arts and visual arts and and many more by KTYS and UCSF students.

The public were also entertaine­d with performanc­es by artists, namely Ampal and Esther Applunius. Celebrity emcee, Ampal kept the atmosphere fun and exciting by interviewi­ng visitors and getting them to participat­e in a series of quizzes and games.

The roadshow continued to attract strong interest from the local communitie­s there.
