PCS backs calls to reissue MyKad

-

KOTA KINABALU: Parti Cinta Sabah (PCS) president Datuk Seri Panglima Wilfred Bumburing yesterday supported the call to recall and reissue MyKads in Sabah, saying that the proposal was in tandem with his memorandum that he submitted to the Federal government in 2010.

“The Federal government accepted my findings in the memorandum submitted to Home Minister Datuk Seri Hishamuddin Hussein Onn, leading to the formation of Commission of Inquiry as announced by Prime Minister Datuk Seri Najib Razak in Keningau,” said Bumburing.

He asserted that the matter that was later examined in the Borneo High Court by RCI, until to date he has yet to see any concrete moves by the authorities concerned on the RCI recommendations.

Bumburing, also Tamparuli assemblyman, cautioned that the situation was alarming since more than what he believed to be 500,000 illegal immigrants from the Philippines, Indonesia, India and Bangladesh, had already set foot throughout Sabah.

“These immigrants, most of whom are sea farers, would rob our children and future generations of their basic human rights and deprive them of their education and welfare,” he added.

Upko Youth chief Arthur Sen and PBS secretary-general Datuk Johnny Mositun wanted the MyKad-holders cancelled and subsequently, reissue these cards to genuine and bona fide refugees.

Usno Baru, however, opposed the call claiming a lack of proof that the documents had been illegally issued to non-citizens and that the exercise was not warranted.

“In my memorandum, my researchers showed proof of how MyKads had been issued to immigrants on the spot wantonly with photographic evidence attached,” he added.

“Without these woes being solved, PCS is worried that these illegal MyKad holders could join in the coming elections and sway the outcome,” he said.
