Coastal highway to Kudat to benefit areas along it — IEM

-

KOTA KINABALU: A coastal highway stretching 126 kilometres from Tuaran to Kudat is expected to boost the economy of places along its path.

Institution of Engineers Malaysia (IEM) Sabah branch chairman James Yong said the coastal highway was part of the Pan Borneo project and was expected to result in generating economic activities at the areas which had remained undeveloped until now.

The travel time to Kudat from Tuaran and vice versa is expected to be shortened once the highway is completed.

Yong, who spoke to reporters at his company’s (PY Konsep Perunding Sdn Bhd) Chinese New Year celebration near here yesterday also spoke about the celebration, stating that as Chinese, they were responsible for the longevity of their own culture.

“We are promoting the Chinese culture in a multiracial society,” he said.

Yong, who holds the post of managing director in the company added that if the Chinese abstained from promoting their own culture, it would eventually die.

At the same time, he also said the company welcomed young students to take up engineering and that they could apply to the company to be accepted as trainees.

“Every year we take up trainees,” he said.

He added that unless the young continued to improve their skills through their training, they will not be able to compete in the market today.
