Six schools in Putatan to benefit from Tutor newspaper
PUTATAN: Six schools here would be receiving Tutor, an education newspaper by Utusan Malaysia.
The schools are SK Petagas, SK Tombovo, SK Kem Lok Kawi, SK Tansau, SJK (C) Hwa Shiong and SMK Tansau.
The total number of students that would benefit from the sponsorship is 1,256.
A total of 21,216 copies of the newspapers would be distributed to the students concerned for a period of 16 weeks. A special allocation of RM27,792 has been set aside by the newspaper for this.
Deputy Chief Minister cum Agriculture and Food Industry Minister, Datuk Seri Panglima Yahya Hussin when launching the distribution at SK Tombovo Friday stressed the importance of children’s education and how it was the most important investment parents can make.
He said that he was sad Bumiputera parents still lagged behind the Chinese in this respect, stating differences in attitude towards children’s education needs.
“Bumiputera parents need to emulate the Chinese parents,” he said.
He added that he compared the parents attendance at non-Chinese schools and those that were.
“During the parent-teacher association meetings, for example, you can see parents flocking to attend the meetings at Chinese schools. I urge parents to care about their children’s education and not to leave all the responsibility of educating children to teachers,” he said.
He reminded that small things which seem unimportant such as reading to a child every night will help mold children in their learning.
“If we don’t give priority to our children’s education, they will also eventually view education as something unimportant,” he said.
