KOTA KINABALU: Local horse racing enthusiasts can now look forward to more interactive horse racing news with the recent inking of a direct satellite broadcast (DBS) service agreement between Royal Sabah Turf Club (RSTC) and Singapore Turf Club (STC).

RSTC chairman Datuk Peter Chin said the agreement will enable locals to watch the weekly horse races held in Singapore live via satellite feed.

“This is the second agreement made between the two parties and will be enforced from April 2018 until March 2021. Through this direct satellite broadcast (DBS) service, our members will be able to learn more about the intricacies of horse racing taking part in other countries,” he said in a statement.

He added that such agreement will also increase the revenue of the local horse racing industry in the future.

It is understood that STC will be conducting 20 horse races on a weekly basis.

Apart from that, the agreement could also serve as a platform to promote the Sabah’s tourism industry, Peter opined.

“Some of our members’ horses have taken part in races at STC, namely, Tip of Borneo, Land Below The Wind and Mount Kinabalu. This, inadvertently, would promote our state’s tourism products in Singapore.

“The agreement also has the potential to attract Singapore and Hong Kong nationals to visit Sabah,” he added.

Also present at the signing ceremony was STC president cum chief executive Chong Boo Ching.
