PH manifesto not sincere — SUPP Youth

-

KUCHING: The Youth Wing of Sarawak United People's Party (SUPP) has described the Pakatan Harapan (PH) manifesto as just paying lip service.

Its chief Michael Tiang said the wing acknowledged that the people's demand for change was genuine but the promises given by the PH manifesto were ‘bogus'.

He gave a few examples of why the SUPP Youth Wing described PH's manifesto as bogus.

“In their manifesto for the coming 14th general election (GE14), PH said if they get to rule Putrajaya they are going to limit the term for Prime Minister, Menteri Besar and Chief Minister for certain states to two terms.

“I say this is bogus because Tun Dr Mahathir Mohamad had been prime minister while Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim and Tan Sri Muhyiddin Yassin had been deputy prime ministers.

“They were once at the top in the Malaysian government. But why only now they have this idea when they are in opposition alliance,” he told a press conference at SUPP headquarters here yesterday.

Tiang noted that Lim Guan Eng is the present Chief Minister of Penang and Datuk Seri Mohamed Azmin Ali is the present Menteri Besar of Selangor.

He argued that since Lim had been chief minister for 10 years (two terms), he should very well declare before GE14 that if PH retains Penang he would step down and allow a new person to go up as the Chief Minister of Penang.

“He (Lim) doesn't need to have any law; he doesn't need to wait till GE14. He can do it now, to take the lead, to set the example, that he has the strong will to bring change to people because this is what people demand.

“That is why I say their manifesto is bogus. People say they want to see change, they talk about change.

“It's only lip service but in actual action they are not genuine, they are never genuine,” he claimed.

Tiang said another prime example is the Bantuan Rakyat 1Malaysia (BR1M).

He said in their manifesto, PH said they will continue with the BR1M, but when Prime Minister Datuk Seri Najib Tun Razak Najib started to implement BR1M they said the country would go bankrupt and claimed the aid was ‘sweet candies to bribe voters'.

“And yet they said they will continue the BR1M if they form the government,” he said.
