Sabah fours team are champions at NSC Lawn Bowls C'ship
KOTA KINABALU: Sabah fours team emerged as champions of the National Sports Council (NSC) Lawn Bowls Championship for national reserve athletes in Negeri Sembilan, recently.
Sabah Lawn Bowls Association (SLBA) president Datuk Ladislaus Maluda said it was a proud achievement because it was the first appearance outside of Sabah for their under-15 players in the team.
They were Abi Afiq Ahmad, Muhammad Alif Aiman Affendy, Asmirul Arispadilla and Muhammad Nurnizam Subper.
They beat Selangor 10-5 in the final. Before that they beat Terengganu 14-7 in the semifinals.
“We did not set any target, we just wanted our players to gain experience and exposure but they came back with the title, which is a huge bonus for us.
“This achievement shows that the development programme here at SLBA is on the right track. Congratulations to the SLBA coaches especially Affendy Tan and Nizam Atoh who are directly involved in guiding these young players,” said Ladislaus.
According to him, he has monitored the players' performance since during the Sabah Games in Sandakan last year and he noted advantages in terms of maturity in game play.
“I will definitely be discussing with the coaches on how to fully nurture the huge talent that our young players possess.
“We will make sure they continue to gain exposure in local and national competitions and this will polish their potential to hopefully become members of the Sabah contingent at the Malaysia Games (SUKMA) in Perak,” he said.
