KUCHING: A memorandum of understanding (MoU) between United People's Party (UPP) and Sarawak United people's Party (SUPP), which is supposed to be signed today (March 18) has been postponed to a later date.

According to UPP Youth chief Dr Johnical Rayong the postponement was made at the last minute. When would it be, he could not tell, only to say that the MoU would be definitely be happening.

He told the press this after attending UPP Youth central committee press conference at party headquarters in Jalan Pending, here yesterday.

Rayong, who is Engkilili assemblyman, said he could not talk more on the MoU. “Only Chief Minister Datuk Patinggi Abang Johari Tun Openg knows."

“But since you people (reporters) are leaking it out, I have to comment a bit.

"Both party presidents Datuk Dr Sim Kui Hian (SUPP) and Dato Sri Wong Soon Koh(UPP) will sign the (MoU), and to be witnessed by Abang Johari and other Barisan Nasional (BN) leaders.”

He declined to say why the MoU was postponed, only to say the MoU was a positive development and something good for Barisan Nasional (BN).

At the press conference earlier, Rayong said that party president had already announced the candidates for Sibu and Lanang, but this was subject to decision of the top BN leadership.

He also said the negotiation process between UPP and SUPP was on-going, adding that in politics everything was possible.

"We will support whatever decision is arrived at by the top BN leadership for the sake of political stability and state BN.

“UPP will even give its full support to SUPP candidates in the coming election.

"After all, SUPP and the rest of the state BN component parties of Parti Pesaka Bumiputera Bersatu (PBB), Parti Rakyat Sarawak (PRS), and Progressive Democratic Party (PDP) will all use the BN symbol for the election,” he said.
