And the nominees for the 2018 CFDA Awards are...
RAF SIMONS, Tom Ford, and Mary-Kate and Ashley Olsen are some of the designers up for nomination for the 2018 CFDA Awards in partnership with Swarovski.
The CFDA (Council of Fashion Designers of America) took to Instagram to unveil the nominees and honorees for the upcoming edition of the annual ceremony, revealing the big names that will battle it out for the prestigious awards this year.
Off White designer Virgil Abloh has been nominated for “Menswear Designer of the Year,” alongside Tom Ford, Thom Browne, James Jebbia of the label Supreme, and Calvin Klein’s Raf Simons. Both Simons and Abloh will also go head to head for the title of “Womenswear Designer of the Year” — a category also featuring Gabriela Hearst, Marc Jacobs, and sister duo Ashley and Mary-Kate Olsen, founders of the luxury US label The Row.
Creatives in the running for “Accessory Designer of the Year” include Paul Andrew, Rachel Mansur and Floriana Gavriel of Mansur Gavriel, Irene Neuwirth, Coach Creative Director Stuart Vevers and, again, the Olsen sisters. Breakout stars who have caught the CFDA’s attention and have been nominated for the “Swarovski Award for Emerging Talent” are Miki Amiri, Brock Collection designers Laura Vassar Brock and Kristopher Brock, Brother Vellies designer Aurora James, Kerby-Jean Raymond of Pyer Moss and Sander Lak of Sies Marjan.
In addition to the nominees, the CFDA has named several industry figures as the honorees of specific accolades. To this end, Diane von Furstenberg will take home the “Swarovski Award for Positive Change,” Narciso Rodriguez the “Geoffrey Beene Lifetime Achievement Award” and Carolina Herrera the “Founder’s Award in honour of Eleanor Lambert.”
Italian fashion mogul Donatella Versace has been named the recipient of the ceremony’s “International Award,” while British Vogue Editor-in-Chief Edward Enninful has won the “Media Award in honour of Eugenia Sheppard.”
The CFDA Awards are designed to celebrate the best of the US fashion industry, with last year’s big-name winners including makeup artist Pat McGrath, Raf Simons and Demna Gvasalia. The winners will be revealed on June 4. — Relaxnews
