Masidi welcomes opposition candidates to contest in Ranau

-

KOTA KINABALU: Incumbent Karanaan assemblyman Datuk Seri Panglima Masidi Manjun has welcomed opposition candidates eyeing the 14th general election (GE14) seats in the Ranau constituency.

“Dipersilakan (welcome). Personally, I respect anyyone who choose to contest in Ranau or anywhere else. See you on election day,” Masidi, who is Tourism, Culture and Environment Minister, told the press.

However, Masidi did not confirm whether or not he would be defending the Karanaan seat in GE14.

“I do not know whether I would be nominated or not. Pose the question to the Prime Minister,” he quipped.

Masidi, who is also the state education exco, said this when asked to comment on the potential of Parti Anak Negeri president Datuk Henrynus Amin contesting the Kundasang and Ranau parliamentary seats after the 2018 National Higher Learning Carnival (KPTN) launch here yesterday.

During the ceremony, Masidi asked SPM and STPM leavers to gather extensive information on the various courses offered at the carnival so they could passionately pursue the right higher learning education.

He advised students to focus on making their pockets deeper by starting from the bottom instead of merely dreaming of high salaries with big positions right after graduation.

The carnival was intended to raise early awareness among secondary school students and parents about the public and private higher education opportunities, sponsorship and financial assistance in Malaysia.

More than 80 booths were set up during the event, organized by the Higher Education Ministry (KPT) and hosted by Universiti Malaysia Sabah (UMS) at 1Borneo Mall.

Among the activities included were admission briefings, opening of UPUOnline counters and talks with university alumni members.

KPT deputy secretary general Dato' Kamel Mohamad and UMS (Student Affairs and Alumni) deputy vice chancellor Professor Dr Ismail Ali were present at the launch.
