More stable power suppy in Sandakan after 2021 – SESB

SANDAKAN: The electricity transmission upgrading project in Sandakan handled by Sabah Electricity Sdn Bhd (SESB) is expected to be completed in 2021, thus creating a more stable power supply in the district.

The upgrading of main electricity supply system in Sandakan from distribution system of 33 Kilo Volt (KV) to transmission system of 132KV, which has higher capacity and is more reliable, was initiated by SESB since 2016 in stages to meet the increasing electricity demand in Sandakan.

According to Senior Managing Director (Asset Development) of SESB, Abdul Nasser Abdul Wahid, the first phase of the project was now in progress and was expected to be completed in 2019.

The first phase of the project which costs RM170 million was funded through loan from the Federal Government. The project is divided into packages including the setting up of Main Intake Substation (PMU) in Elopura, Main Switching Station (MSS) in Tsun Nyen (Mile 5), and other 132 Kilo Volt (KV) related cables.

The next phase is to complete the connection of transmission system between MSS in Tsun Nyen and the existing PMU in Seguntor which will involve the setting up of a new PMU and a 132KV-transmission line.

Abdul Nasser said this when inspecting the progress of MSS in Tsun Nyen, Mile 5 here, on Friday.

“Allocation for the last phase was acquired and the project is now on-going in its early stage. The project is expected to be completed in 2021, completing the overall transmission system upgrading project in Sandakan.

“The upgrading project was initiated as SESB is committed to the need to strengthen the electricity supply network so that power supplied to the people could be improved,” he said.
