37 speakers at World Speech Day in Tawau
TAWAU: Thirty-seven speakers of various age groups and backgrounds participated in the World Speech Day Malaysia 2018 at the Institute of Science and Management (ISM) here on Friday.
The event started at 7pm and ended at 10pm as scheduled. Despite each speaker being given only five minutes to deliver their speech, time was managed at its best.
The majority of the speakers were students from Institute of Science and Management, SMK Kuhara, SM Convent St Ursula, SM Holy Trinity, SMK Tawau, Charis International School, Kolej Tingkatan 6, MRSM, SM St Patrick, SM Sabah Chinese and Sri Al Fateh.
Four speakers were teachers from ISM, SK Bandar, SK Kunak 2 and Bridging Rainbow Early Intervention. The rest were from private companies.
World Speech Day Malaysia 2018 has presented ideas and views on how to make this world a better place for all of us. Besides that the speakers also portrayed courage, confidence and competency to speak on the world stage.
The evening was also a celebration of speech making and delivery on the theme, For a Better World. Despite not being a competition and no prizes were offered, the overwhelming response from the speakers was heartwarming. It shows that many care for the future of the world and are willing to come forward to share their views.
World Speech Day National Ambassador Lee Chye Ewe, who organized similar events in 2016 and 2017, congratulated the speakers for their courage, the parents and teachers for their support, the audience for their presence and the organizing committee from ISM for their dedication and commitment in making the event a great and memorable one. The sponsors who had made their contributions earlier also added to the success.
He also said their contributions in one way or another had also displayed their parts in making this world better. They had set a very noble example to be emulated.
Meanwhile, ISM thanked Lee for the opportunity given to the school to host the meaningful event.
The teacher adviser to the organizing committee, Christy Wong, also expressed her appreciation to the public for their support. She said the turnout from the public was overwhelming.
Participants also expressed their gratitude to the organizer for giving them the great opportunity to speak, to learn and to be part of the global effort in contributing to a better world.
