Four arrested for drug possession

KOTA KINABALU: Four people, including a woman, were arrested in three separate raids in the state capital on Sunday.

City police chief ACP M. Chandra said a total of 62.78 grams of syabu worth RM5,000 was confiscate­d during the three-hour operation after police received a tip-off at 3.30pm on March 18.

“In the first raid, police detained a foreign man in Inanam and found a plastic packet with crystal-like substance believed to be syabu weighing 5.44 grams.

“Following the arrest, police nabbed a couple in Manggatal after they found a plastic packet of crystal-like substance, also believed to be syabu weighing 5.54 grams,” he said yesterday.

A few hours later, police arrested a foreign man for possessing 51.80 grams of syabu around the state capital.

The suspects, in their 20s and 40s, have been remanded for investigat­ion under Section 15(1)(a), Section 39A(1) and Section 39B of the Dangerous Drugs Act 1952.

Chandra thanked the public for tipping off the police which led to the arrest of the suspects.

He also welcomed continuous cooperatio­n from the public in combating drug activities in and around the state capital.

Meanwhile, police in Tawau arrested five suspected drug pushers and addicts at Kampung Vietnam Tanjung Batu on Monday.

District police chief ACP Fadil bin Hj Marsus said the suspects were brought to the police station for investigat­ion under the Dangerous Drugs Act 1952.

Fadil said this operation was held to identify drug hotspots and eradicate drug abuse.
