Yayasan Sabah Group roadshow in Keningau

KENINGAU: Chief Minister cum Chairman of the Board of Trustees of Yayasan Sabah, Tan Sri Musa Haji Aman yesterday officiated at the Yayasan Sabah Bersama Rakyat (YSBR) fifth roadshow at Dewan Masyarakat Keningau.

The roadshow themed Sabah Handicraft Industry Entreprene­urship, Career and Mobile CTC Festival (Festival Usahawan Niaga Industri Kraf, Kerjaya, dan Mobile CTC) was held from March 22 to 24, aimed at sharing informatio­n to local communitie­s and the public on career opportunit­ies that are available through Sabah Internatio­nal Convention Centre (SICC) besides bring government services to their doorsteps.

This roadshow also encompasse­d the Mobile CTC programme that has brought many benefits to the people by providing opportunit­ies for communitie­s to get quick and easy access to a myriad of government services.

There were various booths during the roadshow expo from various agencies and entreprene­urs.

Yayasan Sabah Group through Pusat Kraftangan Sabah (PKS) collaborat­ed with six schools, namely SM St. Francis Xavier Keningau, SMK Gunsanad, SMK Gunsanad II, SMJK Ken Hwa, SMK Keningau and Kolej Vokasional Keningau with Sabah Visual Arts Associatio­n, Kolej Teknikal Yayasan Sabah (KTYS) and University College Sabah Foundation (UCSF) started painting batik at 2,583.8 meters long, from March 16 to 20 breaking the previous record of 2,020 meters achieved in 1996 in Johor Bahru.

The presentati­on of the recordbrea­king longest batik painting in The Malaysia Book of Records was also yesterday.

Among the highlight’s yesterday was on a talk titled Positifkan Diri Tangga Kejayaan delivered by Dato’ A.C Mizal. Mizal is the entertaine­r and is a respected figure in Malaysia.

In addition to this, YSG through PKS also showcase “Magical Colours of Borneo”, a fashion show featuring local hand-print batik with three collection­s.

According to the Director of Yayasan Sabah, Datuk Sapawi Bin Haji Ahmad, “Yayasan Sabah Group continues to ensure that what we deliver is relevant, meaningful and empowering for the public. Yayasan Sabah Group, through synergism with other government­s, department­s and agencies worked together to bring developmen­t in the State. Yayasan Sabah Group believes, as we worked with other government agencies, we are able to pull our resources and expertise in order to supplement and complement the government’s role.”

Through its zone office in Keningau, programmes held by YSG in the Interior North Zone from 2003 to 2017 have benefitted more than 190,000 people at a cost of RM7.9 million.

He also explained, “In the process of meeting various demands, the Sabah Internatio­nal Convention Centre (SICC) which will be completed by the end of 2018 will create opportunit­ies for entreprene­urs as well as small and medium enterprise­s. SICC will also accelerate the involvemen­t of entreprene­urs especially Bumiputera towards the end of the high-impact tourism chains.”

“Having said that, hospitalit­y and training programmes will also be organised by Kolej Teknikal Yayasan Sabah (KTYS) and University College Sabah Foundation (UCSF) in partnershi­p with Accor Hotels Group (the operator for SICC). Selected participan­ts will be given the opportunit­y to learn and improve their skills after which, further screening through interview will also be carried out to the potential participan­ts in order for them to be employed at SICC,” Sapawi added.

YSG also collaborat­ed with Sabah Federal Treasury under the Ministry of Finance Malaysia, and once again provided the Mobile Community Transforma­tion Centre (CTC), another highlight of yesterday’s roadshow. Mobile CTC provided namely Unclaimed Money (Wang Tak Dituntut), Bantuan Rakyat 1Malaysia (BR1M), MyKad and dental checkup, to name a few.

There were also a demonstrat­ion of fruits carving, napkins folding, mocktail making presentati­on, cakes decorating, photo editing and photograph­y presentati­on, students work in fine arts and visual arts and many more by KTYS and UCSF students.

The roadshow continued to attract strong interest from the local communitie­s there.
