Ministry tackles water supply issues at Menggatal village

KOTA KINABALU: The Energy, Green Technology and Water Ministry (KeTTHA) will be implementing various programmes to improve the water supply at Kampung Kibagu, Manggatal.

Although Kampung Kibagu was very special as it was located by the seaside and blessed with amazing views, the village was unfortunately faced with water supply issues, KeTTHA secretarygeneral Datuk Seri Ir Dr Zaini Ujang said.

Speaking to reporters during KeTTHA’s corporate social responsibility (CSR) programme yesterday, Zaini disclosed that the water supply issue could have been caused by rampant water theft by nearby squatters.

“We will be conducting more programmes for Kampung Kibagu to help its villagers resolve their water supply issue,” he said.

Among the aims of yesterday’s CSR programme was to refurbish the village’s Kariah Mosque, which had been dilapidated for quite some time.

Thus, KeTTHA, with the help of 39 Universiti Malaysia Sabah (UMS) students, had opted to repaint and reconstruct the mosque in a bid to increase its capacity.

In addition, Zaini assured the public that KeTTHA would remain committed to reducing the state’s System Average Interruption Duration Index (SAIDI) to its target of 100 minutes.

In this regard, a total of RM2.3 billion had been allocated in the recent 11th Malaysia Plan to improve electricity supply for Sabah alone.

“We have implemented a total of 49 projects thus far and three of them had already been completed. There will be more components that will be implemented in the future,” Zaini added.

Also present was Kariah Mosque Imam Haji Saidi Taib.
