KUCHING: Sarawak Chief Minister Datuk Patinggi Abang Johari Tun Openg is confident that Sarawak Barisan National (BN) is capable of contributing many seats to the BN in the 14th General Election (GE14) to be held at any time soon.

“We are confident of winning the next GE by targeting 28 seats or at least retaining the 25 seats that we won during the GE13,” he said when launching the Sarawak BN Youth machinery at the Satok Sports complex here yesterday.

He said BN Youth was ready to take up the challenge in the GE14 to ensure a big win for the state BN.

“I have already directed Datuk Amar Douglas Uggah (Sarawak deputy chief minister) as our commander-in-chief (election operation director) to lead our causes during the forthcoming GE and with the strong support from other BN component party leaders, I am very confident we will achieve a big victory,’ he said.

Abang Johari, who is also Sarawak BN chairman, said Sarawak BN needed a bigger mandate as a bargaining power to claim Sarawak’s rights from the federal government.

Over 1,000 people attended the event, including BN component parties youth chiefs from Parti Pesaka Bumiputera Bersatu (PBB), Sarawak United People’s Party (SUPP), Parti Rakyat Sarawak (PRS) and Progressive Democratic Party (PDP).

Meanwhile PBB Youth chief Gerald Rentap Jabu said that all PBB operation rooms at all divisios had been activated and all its members were on standby for GE14.

He said Sarawak BN Youth fully supported the leadership of Abang Johari as Sarawak chief minister and his digital economic initiative as well as other initiatives aimed at boosting the economy of Sarawak to become a developed state by 2030. - Bernama
