Fine on 10 teams for late registration reduced

KUALA LUMPUR: Ten Malaysia League teams who were fined a total of RM9 million by Malaysia Football League (MFL) for late registration and failure to complete their team registration for the 2018 season can now heave a sigh of relief when the penalties were lowered.

MFL chief executive officer, Kevin Ramalingam in a statement issued by MFL yesterday said the fine was cut after 10 teams comprising four Super League teams and six Premier League teams appealed against the fine within the 14-day period after the penalties were announced.

The fine for Super League teams was slashed from RM1.5 million to RM500,000 while the fine for Premier League sides was cut down from RM500,000 to RM200,000, he said.

“The penalties were lowered to give the teams the opportunity to make changes in future.

“But M-League teams are warned that fines exceeding RM1 million will be imposed if the offences are repeated in future,” he said in a statement.

The four Super League teams fined are Selangor, Kuala Lumpur, Kelantan and PKNS FC while the six Premier League sides involved are Penang, Sarawak, Kuantan FA, UKM FC, PDRM and MIFA.

According to Kevin, the penalties were reduced upon the advice of MFL chairman, Tunku Ismail Sultan Ibrahim.

However, he said 10 teams would still face the punishment on restriction on transfers and point deduction for failing to complete their documentation. - Bernama
