LABUAN: Retired teachers on this dutyfree island have vowed to help the Barisan Nasional (BN) candidate standing in the Labuan parliamentary seat win in the forthcoming 14th General Election (GE14), to ensure its continued development.

Malaysian Association of Former Education Officers (Labuan Branch) president Datin Dayang Pungut Abdul Jalil said that as former civil servants it was appropriate for them to appreciate the benefits provided by the government, and not to become ‘wolves in sheep clothing.

“As a civil service pensioner, everything we enjoy from the past up to now is the result of the contributions given by the government, and we should continue to give it our support,” she told Bernama yesterday.

She said education service pensioners in Labuan, especially members of the association admired the leadership of Labuan MP Datuk Rozman Isli, who had worked hard to ensure that the island continued to enjoy greater progress. Meanwhile, Rozman, who is also Labuan Corporation chairman, said the undivided support of government retirees, especially former teachers to the ruling government was needed to ensure the BN government’s victory in the next general election.

“Labuan’s development will continue based on the Labuan Development Plan 2030, and the announcement of the construction of the Labuan-Menumbok bridge by Prime Minister Datuk Seri Najib Tun Razak recently will enable Labuan residents to enjoy greater development,” he said. – Bernama
