BR1M not ‘candy’ to gain votes — Yusof

-

LAHAD DATU: The opposition should stop twisting facts about the Bantuan Rakyat 1Malaysia (BR1M) as the assistance has been proven to ease the people’s burden.

Lahad Datu assemblyman Datuk Mohd Yusof Apdal said BR1M had been assisting the people since its establishment.

Yusof said it was inappropriate for the opposition to claim that BR1M is used to gain votes from the people, especially for the upcoming general election.

He said BR1M which was given to people regardless of race, religion and political affiliation was aimed only to reduce the people’s burden.

“This is not ‘candy’ to gain people’s vote, but the government’s commitment in assisting the people,” he said.

Yusof said this in his speech at the BR1M voucher presentation ceremony at Dewan Tun Mustapha on Monday.

According to Yusof, who is also Silam Umno Division head, the global economic situation has impacted all parties, including the people.

Aware of this matter, Yusof said the government had taken various measures to minimize the impact of the world economic crisis.

He said the world economic crisis is a challenge to national leadership. The BR1M was introduced by Prime Minister Datuk Seri Mohd Najib Tun Abdul Razak as the government is concerned about the people.

“This government should be maintained so that the needs of the people can continue to be given attention and development could be implemented for the wellbeing of the people,” he added.

During the ceremony, Yusof presented BR1M vouchers to 1,285 recipients, including 23 senior citizens.
