Parents need to work closely with schools — Yahya

PUTATAN: Parents need to work closely with schools to achieve better quality education in the nation.

In line with that, updates to the education system through continuous innovation of policies and strategies must be done, said Deputy Chief Minister Datuk Seri Panglima Yahya Hussin.

“Our education system must be dynamic, progressive and ready to evolve according to the times. The responsibility to bring change does not only lie with the school, but parents as well,” he said in his opening address at the SMK Putatan student excellence award ceremony yesterday.

Yahya, who is also Minister of Agriculture and Food Industry, said students nowadays do not only go to school to study, but also to be moulded into knowledgeable heirs to the country with good character.

He said the ceremony to celebrate students’ excellence was a good incentive to encourage and motivate students to continue on the path of achievement in all fields.

He reminded students who received awards during the ceremony to continue striving for excellence in their future endeavours.

“Success should not make us complacent. We should not feel relieved or comfortable, expecting success to repeat itself in time to come.

“The reality is that we face new challenges every day that require us to seek the latest knowledge all the time, through innovation and going beyond the threshold of excellence,” he elaborated.

Yahya also advised students who did not receive an award to use this experience as motivation to work harder and keep striving for better results, instead of feeling disappointed.

Also present at the ceremony was SMK Putatan excellent principal Joharah Abdullah.
