MPC optimistic of achieving 3.7 pct
KOTA KINABALU: The Malaysian Productivity Corp (MPC) is optimistic of achieving the government’s target of 3.7 per cent productivity growth by 2020, said Deputy Director, Dr Shaik Roslinah Bux.
Shaik Roslinah said the target could be achieved through the support of all parties, including increasing production and performance of nine productivity nexus – products and chemicals; machinery and equipment; electrical and electronics; retail and food and beverage; tourism; agro food, information communication technology, professional services; and, healthcare.
She said all sectors played an important role, however, the nine productivity nexus were the prime movers of the Malaysia Productivity Blueprint.
“The labour productivity growth rates of Malaysia had been promising at 3.5 per cent in 2016 and 3.6 per cent last year.
“We target 3.7 per cent by 2020. If things go right in the economy and there are not many global economic challenges, we will achieve our target,” she told reporters at the ‘Malaysian Productivity Corp – Conversation and Professional Talk on Technology and Legal Industry Needs’ yesterday. The programme attracted 120 participants, comprising engineers, architects and students from Polytechnic Kota Kinabalu, Universiti Malaysia Sabah and Universiti Teknologi Mara Sabah.
Shaik Roslinah said the MPC also encouraged public institutions of higher learning and the private institutions of higher education to ensure that their programmes of study were in line with the industry’s requirements to ensure the availability of graduates.
