Jack Neo hoping to get more laughs in Taiwan
TAIPEI: Singaporean director Jack Neo, 58, famed for his Stupid series of movies, is next hoping to make audiences in Taiwan laugh.
To get there, he has cast Taiwanese actors for Killer Not Stupid.
Among the household names in Taiwan that he has cast are actor Jay Shih, actress-singer Amber An and actor-host Nadou.
Jack is taking the plunge after observing how audiences in Taiwan have always responded well to his brand of humour.
Said Jack “I have always wanted to go beyond the Singapore market and I realised that Taiwan audiences have been supporting my films when they air on television. I hope to have a breakthrough with my 31st movie.”
The RM8 million movie is to be filmed mostly in the Taiwanese city of Taichung, including at locations such as the scenic Blue Road and the bustling Dadu Zhichang night market.
The filming for Killer Not Stupid has commenced and it is expected to wrap by May. Jack is hoping to release it for the Lunar New Year season in 2019. Killer Not Stupid is produced by Singapore’s J Team Productions and mm2 Entertainment (Taiwan), in association with Hong Kong-based Turner Asia Pacific. This is Neo’s first collaboration with a Taiwanese movie company. Killer Not Stupid tells the story of two men who decide to end their careers as assassins with a final mission. Along the way, they meet an old classmate a Filipino drug lord daughter and others en route to Taichung. That’s when all hell breaks loose.
