-

KOTA MARUDU: The Kerongkom Jaya People’s Housing Project here will become a catalyst in providing opportunities for low-income earners in the district to own a more safe and comfortable house.

The construction work of the six blocks of five-storey flat comprising 420 house units began in December 2014 and was completed in January this year. The house key handing over ceremony to residents will be held in the near future.

Kota Marudu district officer Arnold Joibi said a total of 1,370 applications had been received from people in the district which indirectly demonstrated there was a high demand for such housing projects in Kota Marudu.

“The application was opened early this year until Feb 28. The selection process is currently underway and will be made based on certain criteria to ensure that only qualified applicants are selected to rent the units,” he told Bernama recently.

PPR Kerongkom Jaya, which is located near the Kota Marudu town, is also equipped with facilities such as surau, kindergarten, multipurpose hall and children’s playground and shop lots to provide a more conducive environment for the residents.

Each unit of the PPR house has a built-up area of 700 square feet with three bedrooms and two bathrooms. There are also four units reserved for persons with disabilities.
