KOTA KINABALU: Sabah women face tough challenges in this weekend’s fixtures at the National Futsal League in Shah Alam.

They are up against two of their closest rivals occupying the top three spots in the eight-team standings.

But despite an uncertain outlook, Sabah women are determined to continue their winning ways. They are banking on a repeat of earlier performances to see them through the uphill climb this weekend.

The squad, led by head coach Rosmadih Wasli, have a date with Selangor United MPSJ today. Tomorrow they face KL Felda United FC. Both games will be played at the Panasonic Sports Complex.

Sabah and Felda occupy the top two spots with six points each but are separated by virtue of goal difference favouring the latter. Selangor United MPSJ on the other hand are third in the standings on three points.

“The two opponents we face this week are strong teams and both did well last season too. But we are ready to give them strong challenges and our target is to continue to win or at least avoid defeat.

“We will take it one match at a time and hopefully be able to achieve our target,” Rosmadih said when met at the Kota Kinabalu International Airport here, yesterday.

Rosmadih is happy with the team’s preparation for these two matches. He said the players are in shipshape and are raring to face the opponents.

A total of 15 players were listed for the two matches.

“We are bringing 14 players from here, while JI Fedalliah Claritta Jaimin who is undergoing national squad training, will join us there later,” Rosmadih said.

For the record, Sabah are represented by several national footballers, while Selangor United MPSJ and Felda both have national futsal players on their side.

Sabah and Selangor United MPSJ met earlier in the qualification round where the match ended in a 1-1 draw.

Meanwhile, two of Sabah’s earlier matches saw them notch a 3-0 win over Negeri Sembilan and a 2-1 victory over Royal Malaysian Police.

The players tasked to win the points this weekend include Masturah Majid, Shereilyn Elly Pius, Jaciah Jamilus, Haindee Mosroh, Pedrolia Martin Sikayun, Eslilah Esar and JI Fedalliah.

The others are Usliza Usman, Lovella Julie Jelus, A Nuraziela Ali Jainal, Sharmilla Natasha Jani, Nurhalizah Ahmad, Asma Junaidi, Juliana Ferdinand and Tesslonica Angel Stanislaus.
