Not right to blame opposition for stagnant Sandakan — Liew
SANDAKAN: It is not right to blame the opposition for the stagnant growth of Sandakan, said Datuk Liew Vui Keong, the permanent chairman of Parti Warisan (Warisan).
Liew was commenting on a statement made by Liberal Democratic Party (LDP) on March 24 that Sandakan would remain stagnant if opposition win again.
“The statement is a smack on the face of LDP and BN leadership in Sabah. It had conveniently overlooked the fact that the economic development of the State and in this case Sandakan rests with the ruling Government of the day who will lay out policies, programs and economic activities for the benefit of the people.
“To say that it’s the responsibility of the Opposition to develop Sandakan is a reflection of his inability to understand how a government functions.
“He (LDP Youth Chief, Tsang Hieng Yee who made the statement) must have forgotten that under Sandakan Parliamentary, there are two State Constituencies, namely Elopura and Tanjung Papat in which the Assemblyman is head of a Government linked company, Datuk Au Kam Wah, while the other assemblyman, Datuk Seri Panglima Raymond Tan Shu Kiah, is the Deputy Chief Minister cum the Minister of Industrial Development.
Liew further said that for LDP to put the blame squarely on the Opposition reflected his immaturity in understanding the issue at hand.
“He must have also forgotten that Kota Kinabalu Parliamentary and Penampang Parliamentary are also under the Opposition. Can he use the same arguments here like he did for Sandakan?
“For that matter, there are many Parliamentary and state seats that are under the Opposition. Not forgetting that both Penang and Selangor are Opposition states. So, who is this man kidding?” Liew said.
