Govt always supports training of village heads – Musa
SANDAKAN: The state government always supports any ongoing efforts and programmes in implementing various initiatives to ensure village leaderships were given training to improve the efficiency of village governance, said Chief Minister Tan Sri Musa Aman.
It was the government’s desire to enhance the knowledge and skills of the villages’ head leadership in managing and administering the village, assured Musa.
“The grassroots leaders such as the Village Development and Security Committee (JKKK) are very important institutions in order to increase the involvement of the people in rural development, as well as become the eyes and ears of the government thus acting as intermediaries between the government and the people.
“Hence, the state and federal government are committed to strengthening this institution, especially in the areas of leadership and competency of village governance.
“In the context of the state government, especially through the Sabah Ministry of Rural Development (KPLB), it also carries out various training programmes on an ongoing basis to enhance the competence of JKKK and Community In-Town Committee (JKDB) such as Management and Administration Course,” he said.
Musa’s speech was delivered by Assistant Local Government and Housing Minister Datuk Haji Zakaria Haji Mohd Edris at the closing ceremony of the Village Governance (Tadbir Urus Desa) Infra-UniKL Sabah Siri 3/2018 programme held at a hotel here on Thursday.
A total of 265 participants, comprising village leaders from Sugut, Labuk, GumGum, Sibuga River, Sekong, Karamunting, Elopura, Tanjung Papat, Kuamut and Sukau have completed the course.
Musa said, by awarding this certificate, it was able to increase the credibility of all participants to develop their respective villages to be among the best in the state.
“Meanwhile, the government's efforts to hold this programme clearly demonstrate our trust and confidence in the JKKK in carrying out functions and roles as the eyes and ears of the government at the grassroots level,” he pointed out.
