Couple charged with masquerading as Datuk Seri, Datin Seri to deceive police
KLANG: A married couple were charged in the Magistrate’s Court yesterday with masquerading as a ‘Datuk Seri’ and a ‘Datin Seri’ to deceive the police.
G. Kumara Guru, 29, and S. Nishanthini, 28, claimed trial when the charge was read out to them in separate magistrate’s courts.
Kumara Guru allegedly posed as a ‘Datuk Seri’ to deceive two policemen at Persiaran Batu Belah, Bukit Raja here at about 6.30 am on March 17.
Nishanthini allegedly used the title ‘Datin Seri’ on her business cards and Facebook account, at the location, time and date.
The charge under Section 419 of the Penal Code carries up to seven years jail or a fine or both, upon conviction.
Meanwhile, Kumara Guru, who is a vegetable seller, also faces three more charges.
On the second charge, he is accused under Section 186 of the Penal Code which carries a maximum imprisonment of two years or a fine of up to RM10,000 or both, of willfully obstructing a policeman from carrying out his duty by refusing to allow the latter to check his identity card.
On the third charge, he is accused of using criminal force on a policeman, under Section 353 of the Penal Code which is punishable by imprisonment of up to two years or fine or both upon conviction.
On the fourth charge, he is accused of rude and insulting behaviour towards a policeman, under Section 14 of the Minor Offences Act 1955 for which he can be fined RM100 if convicted.
Kumara Guru pleaded not guilty to committing the offences at Persiaran Batu Belah, Bukit Raja at about 6.30 am on March 17.
Magistrate Solehah Noratikah Ismail set RM10,500 as bail for Kumara Guru while magistrate Rozianti Mohamed Hanaphi set RM7,000 for Nishanthini.
The cases have been fixed for mention on April 23 and May 8.
Deputy public prosecutor Syed Farid Syed Ali, Amira Abd Aziz and Tan Chiew King appeared for the prosecution while both accused were represented by counsel Gerrard Lazarus. Bernama
