EC all set for GE14

-

KOTA KINABALU: The Election Commission (EC) is well prepared to face the 14th General Election (GE14), said Minister in the Prime Minister's Department Dato' Sri Azalina binti Dato' Othman Said.

She said election courses and Training for Trainers (TOT) programmes were held for the EC's staff.

Additionally, she said the EC had also completed organizing talks for election staff on their roles and responsibilities.

She said most election staff comprise temporary workers, of which majority of them were civil servants. Azalina said that in response to Senator Datuk Yong Wui Chung's question on the EC's preparedness for GE14 and the number of civil servants as postal voters in Sabah under the Health and Safety Scheme announced by the commission.

At the same time, she said the EC had identified and inspected 8,971 polling centres nationwide that would be used in GE14 to ensure the centres were in good condition.

“Besides that, the EC has acquired the necessary equipment and logistics for GE14.”

On another note, Azalina said postal voting application for nine government departments and agencies was still open.

She said the postal votes received by EC would be checked to ensure they were from civil servants from the nine departments and agencies that were on duty on election day.

Hence, she said the EC was unable to provide the number of civil servants who have applied for postal voting as the application was still open.
