Flood-prone bus stops in need of urgent attention

-

SANDAKAN: The bus stops near Yu Yuan Secondary School and in front of Giant Supermarket will be brought to the attention of the local council soon.

Each time it rains, the two bus stops would be flooded and the one near Giant Supermarket would be muddy and impassable by pedestrians.

This would pose a safety hazard to students and senior/elderly residents.

Sandakan Municipal Council (SMC) engineer Ir SN Siew said that he would bring the problematic bus stops to the attention of the council and would remedy and take immediate action to address the problem.

The problem has been brought up three times to Elopura assemblyman Datuk Au Kam Wah who said that he would look into it.

Parti Rakyat Malaysia (PRM), Sabah chairman LincolnLawrence Shim has raised the problem on Facebook and would like to remind Au on the matter.

Shim went to inspect the bus stop in front of Giant Supermarket together with PRM secretary general Koh Swe Yong and three senior committee (executive) to investigate the matter and urge SMC to speed up their action before some senior citizens slipped and injured themselves.

PRM also reminded the Barisan Nasional government who ruled Malaysia for 55 years, to practise ‘Prevention is better than cure’ policy in line with Prime Minister Datuk Seri Najib Razak’s ‘People First; Performance Now’.
