Police record Lim’s statement in anti-GST song probe
GEORGE TOWN: Penang police recorded a statement from Chief Minister Lim Guan Eng yesterday to assist investigations into the case where he allegedly tried to indoctrinate children with ‘hate politics’ by poking fun at the Goods and Services Tax (GST) in a parody of the ‘A, B, C’ song recently.
Two police officers arrived at Lim’s office in Kompleks Tun Abdul Razak at 2 pm but were only able to record the statement at 2.50 pm.
According to Lim’s lawyer, RSN Rayer, who was present, the two police officers arrived to record the Chief Minister’s statement in relation to the case (the anti-GST song).
“We cooperated with the police and the process of recording the statement went smoothly,” he told reporters later. However, efforts to get police confirmation on matter failed as state Police Chief Datuk A Thaiveegan could not be contacted.
Lim, who is also DAP secretarygeneral, was reported would be investigated by the police following reports lodged against him for allegedly trying to indoctrinate children with politics of hate by poking fun at the GST in a parody of the ‘ABC’ song.
A 32-second video clip shows Lim dancing and making fun of the GST at the launch of a tuition centre in Jelutong on March 17.
Lim is being investigated under Section 233 of the Malaysian Communications and Multimedia Commission Act which provides for a fine of up to RM50,000 and jail sentence up to one year, or both, if found guilty. - Bernama
