JOHOR BAHRU: The transfer of advanced technology from China is set to help fill the yarn manufacturing gap in Malaysia’s textile industry, says Chinese Ambassador to Malaysia Bai Tian.

He said with the collaboration between the two countries, the establishment of yarn manufacturer — D&Y Textile (M) Sdn Bhd in the Sedenak Industrial Park here, would help turn Malaysia’s textile sector into a capital and technology intensive industry.

“I understand that there is was no yarn manufacturing plant in Malaysia as such the establishment of D&Y Textile will not only fill the gap in Malaysia’s textile industry but also bring in top notch yarn manufacturing technology from China into this country,” he told reporters after visiting the D&Y Textile plant here, yesterday.

D&Y Textile is owned by Shandong-based Daiyin Textile and Garment Group which invested US$500 million (RM1.93 billion) to set up the 22.56 hectare plant in 2013.

According to the company’s website, the factory’s average daily output was 120,000 kg, with China and Malaysia being their main markets.

Bai said thus far, the company had created about 1,000 jobs for the locals, and up to 2,200 jobs were expected to be created after all three phases of the plant is completed by 2020.

“We are thankful for the efforts undertaken by the Federal and state governments, especially in terms of investment policies that enabled the establishment D&Y Textile here,” said Bai who is on a three-day visit to Johor, after assuming office in November 2017. - Bernama
