Four jailed for shoplifting
KOTA KINABALU: Four men were jailed by the Magistrate’s Court here yesterday for separate charges of stealing various items such as food and garments.
Roslan Gunonop, 38, Wellery Vitta @ Victor, 22, Fedlee Juakin, 34 and Mohd Hamidi Ibrahim, 36, pleaded guilty before magistrate Stephanie Sherron Abbie to charges under Section 380 of the Penal Code.
For theft in a dwelling house, the accused persons are liable to a jail term of up to 10 years and shall also be liable to a fine upon conviction.
In the first case, Roslan was jailed 18 months for stealing 10 pieces of various colours of female undergarments from a clothing shop and another two items, namely a bag and a pair of socks from a shop, all valued at RM173.99 at a shopping complex here on March 26.
In the second case, Wellery and Fedlee were sent to four months’ behind bars each for stealing raw chicken wings from a hypermarket at Kepayan Ridge on March 11.
Meanwhile, the third case, Mohd Hamidi was jailed 16 months for stealing four pieces of jeans pants also from a hypermarket in the city on March 13.
Prosecuting officer Inspector Suzie@ Stephanie Kupit told the court that all the accused persons were arrested after leaving the shops without making any payment.
The prosecution also said the items were kept inside their clothes and noticed by staff of the said shops.
