Takis Force crowned champions

KOTA KINABALU: Takis Force were crowned champions in the Papar Umno Youth Movement Chief Cup seven-a-side football tournament that ended at SK Kelanahan in Papar on Sunday.

Former Sabah team defender Razid Gapar inspired Takis Force to the title after his two goals in the final edged Kelana 77 United.

Takun FC of Kampung Pulasan settled for third after winning in the sudden-death penalty shoot-out against KLFC of Kampung Laut.

The champions received RM1,500 in prize money followed by the runner-up with RM750 and RM500 and RM300 for the third and fourth placed teams respective­ly.

The winning teams also received trophies and medals.

Also being handed out were awards for Best Player which went to Syukur Iqbal, Top Scorer (Mohd Zaheryilha­m Abdul Majid), Best Goalkeeper (Asmadi Mat Salleh), Special Player (Sufrizan Suhaibul and Dans) as well as Promising Player (Jack).

Papar Umno Youth Movement and Kg Kelanahan Umno Youth Movement jointly organised the tournament that was participat­ed by 21 teams.

The Papar Umno Youth Movement chief Datuk Armizan Mohd Ali presented the prizes to the winners.

Armizan also praised the organisers for a job well done and hoped that there would be more similar tournament­s in the future.

“The tournament was not all about football as I noticed that it also brought the people from nearby and thus helped to close rapport among the communitie­s here in Papar,” he said while lauding the organising committee chairman Redzuan Ismail @ Garin for a well-organised tournament.

Meanwhile, there were also lucky draws on the day among which were buffalo, goats, motorcycle and many more.

Village chief of Kg Kelanahan Saban Bakti and its JKKK chairman Hj Ibrahim Hj Moksin were also present.
