Junz says may not defend Likas seat

-

KOTA KINABALU: Parti Warisan Sabah Vice President Junz Wong hinted that he might not be defending the Likas state seat in the upcoming 14th General Election.

He won the Likas seat under the Democratic Action Party (DAP) ticket during the 13th General Election.

When asked by The Borneo Post if he would be defending the Likas seat in the 14th General Election, Junz answered simply on WhatsApp: “No maybe not standing.”

He remained mum for a while when further asked if his statement meant he would be contesting elsewhere and not in Likas.

However, later he replied: “Not sure. Maybe not.”

DAP Sabah branch has been vocal about the Likas State Assembly seat in the past, with its chairman, Stephen Wong demanding that Junz vacate the seat following his resignation from DAP in 2016.

The question as to whether Junz would remain as a contender in Likas for the State Assembly seat arose following the announcement by Parti Warisan Sabah’s President, Datuk Seri Panglima Shafie Apdal, during their 2017 Annual Convention, that the party would be cooperating with Pakatan Harapan and DAP, and that the cooperation was a “done deal”.

Following the announcement on Monday at Wisma Hakka, several reporters have asked Junz if he would remain in Likas but he was tight lipped then.

Meanwhile, as other political parties in Sabah are still scrambling to finalise their list of nominees for the upcoming 14th General Election, Parti Warisan Sabah has already gotten all their printed materials ready for it.

“We already have everything ready for the election,” said Junz on the party’s preparations.

“Our machinery, our flags, our shirts, our banners, everything is ready,” he said.

The party even got a website domain, http://rakyatproject. org which Junz said needed to be shared with the general public.

Unfortunately, Junz was unable to get his team to pose wearing the party’s T-shirts as these were kept in a store, and he was also busy with other preparations.

The Borneo Post also contacted other opposition parties concerning their preparations, namely Kapayan Assemblyman, Dr Edwin Bosi who is now with Parti Anak Negeri and Datuk Yong Teck Lee of Sabah Progressive Party (SAPP). However, both were quiet.

Unnamed members of United Pasokmomogun Kadazandusun Murut Organisation (UPKO) and Parti Bersatu Sabah (PBS) have cited that both parties have yet to carry out any printing works as they were finalizing their lists.
