Call to return Penampang seats to BN

-

PENAMPANG: Return Penampang seats to Barisan Nasional (BN) so that the coalition leaders can make real changes to the district, urged Umno Sabah secretary Datuk Seri Panglima Yahya Hussin.

Yahya, previously Deputy Chief Minister, Agriculture and Food Industry Minister, and Petagas assemblyman, said one of BN’s mission was to bring better education-related developments in Penampang.

He said the developments, such as an increase in the number of schools, was important as it would not only allow Penampang to shape quality future leaders for the nation but would also create a more intelligent society as a whole.

“I’m in Putatan. (Umno Penampang chief) Datuk John Ambrose, (BN Penampang chief Datuk) Donald (Peter Mojuntin), (Caesar) Mandela (Malakun), they aspire to grow and change Penampang but on the condition that we must return Penampang to Barisan Nasional,” said Yahya, who is also Umno Putatan Division head.

He added the Barisan Nasional continued with developments in Penampang can be clearly seen over the past 15 years and, even though it has been held by the opposition for the past five years, Penampang has not been left out from the recent Pan Borneo Highway development.

“That is why I wonder when the opposition party says this and that, it’s as if they are blind, as if they cannot see what we were doing,” he said.

Yahya reckoned that education is key to an intellectual society that will be less susceptible to rumour mongers and the government needs to take future action such as the recent Anti Fake News Bill.

“Because (we) have less of the reading hobby, analytical and finding the truth (characteristics), what is effective on us are rumuors. People would bring it to us, and we would straight away believe (it). This is what we must change so that we can find the truth,” he said when officiating at the Penampang district level tablet presentation to the Education Ministry (KPM) educators ceremony at Dewan Sri Malakun, SMK Limbanak here yesterday.

“I hope these tablets will more or less help teachers to increase the quality of education in the Putatan and Penampang districts as best as possible,” he added.

Earlier during the ceremony, Yahya said the tablets were provided to teachers by KPM with the cooperation of Utusan Malaysia, so it could assist them in the application of modern teaching that was in line with the 21st Century Education concept.

The tablets were presented to representatives from six schools, SMK Limbanak, SK Petagas, SK St Joseph, SK Kg Contoh Putatan, SJK (C) Yue Min and SMK Tansau.
