100PLUS badminton c’ships 2nd Leg on May 2-6
KOTA KINABALU: Sabah will be hosting the 100PLUS National Junior Circuit (2nd Leg) Badminton Championships at the Kota Kinabalu Sports Complex here on May 2 to 6.
They are defending their title from the 1st Leg tournament which was for Zone A which involved Pahang, Johor, Perlis and Penang.
The championships next month will have three main categories and 12 events, including boys’ and girls’ singles and doubles for Under-16, Under-14 and Under-12.
Competition chairman Datuk Anthony Linggian said all preparations for the championship were going smoothly and according to plan.
He said several committees were formed during a meeting which was chaired by Sabah Badminton Association president Janih Bangud here recently to ensure that all aspects of the preparations were covered.
Janih and Sabah Sports Board general manager Datuk Penyuki Matta were appointed as joint organising chairmen, while their deputies were Mohd Tamin Zainal and Sabah Sports Council director Terrance Edward Pudin.
Other appointments include Golubi Guntarek (competition deputy chairman), Steve Jay (secretary), Mildred Jemandan (assistant secretary), Juprin Wong Adamal (treasurer), Benedict Asmat (assistant treasurer), Ag Damit Abu Bakar (technical coordinator) and Kasim Yusof and Androw C Sindeh (assistant technical coordinators).
“Committees for other aspects of the championships such as venue, safety, accommodation, transport, prizes, food and drinks, traffic, secretariat, public relations and publicity have also been formed.
“We not only want to be the best host, we also hope that Sabah can capitalise on this home advantage to try and create more champions for the National Grand Prix final,” said Anthony.
As the host for the championship, Anthony said Sabah was allowed to join up to nine singles and six doubles events.
For the record, Sabah won the 1st Leg championship in Pahang last month after winning six gold medals.
They came from Mohd Arif Jun Ket (Boys U12 singles), Goh Shuen Tong (Girls U14 singles), Daniel Edry Elvesty (Boys U14 singles), Arena Satu Samin (Girls U16 singles) and Demond Anthony Samin (Boys U16 singles).
