Manifesto for each district encouraged

-

KOTA KINABALU: Deputy Chief Minister Datuk Seri Yahya Hussin said Barisan Nasional (BN) leaders are encouraged to have a manifesto in each district for the coming 14th general election (GE14).

For Putatan, he has listed some programs which are expected to be done in the next five years with Pan Borneo Highway as one of the first programs which had been declared.

Apart from the highway, a tamu ground and a football field would be upgraded; construction of SMK Petagas and applications for more secondary schools to be built in Putatan due to the dramatic increase in population, said Yahya, who is also Petagas assemblyman.

Promising the people on the given manifesto, he also highlighted the applications for the 1Malaysia People’s Housing Scheme (PR1MA) and the People’s Housing Programme (PPR).

About 1,000 units of PR1MA houses had been applied for while a few thousand more for PPR houses, Yahya told reporters at Santai Tuai Tanaman Rock Melon Incubator Project at Taman Kekal Pengeluaran Makanan Putatan here yesterday. Also present was Sabah Agriculture Department director Datuk Idris Shafie.

Currently there are about 5,000 squatters in Putatan but only about 1,000 PPR houses were built. Thus, he had made more applications for such houses to be built, he said.

Improvements in the tourism infrastructure will be made as Putatan has areas for tourists to visit, such as the seashore, but some areas have no pathways or roads; to create a sewerage system for Putatan, an international medical school, a fire station and the district police headquarters.

Commenting on the event, Yahya said rock melon could be a product of Putatan and increase the income of farmers.

He said 10 capable farmers had been identified to carry out the rock melon project.

The rock melon project started in 2015, costing about RM16 million.
