Filipino charged with being a member of Abu Sayyaf
KOTA KINABALU: A 31-yearold Filipino was charged at the Magistrate's Court here with being a member of the Abu Sayyaf militant group.
No plea was taken from Marsan Ajilul @ Anuar Mohamad Asnalul, who was brought before Magistrate Cindy Mc Juce Balitus, yesterday.
Deputy Public Prosecutor Wan Farrah Farriza Wan Ghazali requested for another mention date as the documents for the case were not ready.
Marsan was arrested at the Sabah Police Contingent headquarters here between July 31, 2012 until March 15.
He faces a charge under Section 130KA of the Penal Code which carries a lifetime imprisonment and also liable to a fine upon conviction.
Masran also faces another charge of entering the state without valid documents at the same place between August 2017 until March 15.
The alleged offence is framed under Section n 6 (1)(c) of the Immigration Act 1959/63.
The magistrate set this Friday for mention of both cases and Masran to be further detained pending disposal of the case.
Masran was among seven individuals who were detained during police raids in Johor and Sabah between Feb 27 and March 15 on suspicion of being members of the terrorist group and planning to launch attacks in the country.
