Umno members warned against sabotage

-

KUALA LUMPUR: Umno has reminded all its members to refrain from sabotaging the party, supporting its adversaries or committing any other related offences in the run-up to the 14th general election on May 9.

Its secretary-general, Datuk Seri Tengku Adnan Tengku Mansor, said all party members, including those holding positions at any level, were bound by the Umno constitution and code of ethics and should not violate the party rules.

“Any member of the party found guilty of committing acts defying the party rules can be expelled or suspended from the party immediately,” he said in a statement yesterday.

Tengku Adnan said he hoped that all Umno members would give their undivided support and carry out their responsibilities to ensure a Barisan Nasional victory in the general election.

“There should not be any sabotaging. Members must respect whatever decision made by the party leadership.

“In fact, we don’t even want members to sulk. What they need to do is to work for the party’s success in the polls. This is what is important, not who gets to contest and who doesn’t,” he said on Friday (April 13).

“If the leadership decides to make way a seat to a Barisan component party, then all Umno members must respect this and work together for the candidate.

“I have also issued the same statement two weeks ago reminding parties in Barisan over the same matter. If their seat is given to Umno, then they must not sabotage.

“Our success in this election depends on how united we are in facing our opponents. That is why we must ensure we are a strong front,” said Tengku Adnan.

The Election Commission has set April 28 for nomination and May 9 for polling.
